Hi! Welcome Back to Tamarack :-)

Reopening letter from Leni

Our core group of volunteers has been working overtime during the past two weeks while we were closed for annual maintenance. Some of the projects you will be able to see – like the painting of the walls on the pool deck. Most things you wouldn’t – like a new concrete lining in the overflow pit and regrouting of the locker room floors. We ask that you please excuse some of the temporary inconveniences – such as the life jackets being in bins. We are not done yet. Access and storage is still being put together over the next few weeks.

With any change there is always the possibility we moved something or changed something that is important to you. We truly have everyone’s best interest at heart. If you would like something different please leave a note for me at the front desk or in the suggestion box. If at all possible we will try to accommodate what you need. You are always welcome to leave an anonymous suggestion. If you do leave us your contact information, if there is some reason we can’t do it we can talk about it and see what else might work.

Tamarack Pool is getting stronger every day. This new facelift will help to show donors we are moving forward onto solid financial footing – which will help to attract more donors. We have a couple of ongoing projects that help to financially support Tamarack Pool. Take a look at the supporter display board in the lobby. These businesses have purchased a monthly space on the board to continually support Tamarack Pool, or they gave a large donation of materials or labor to the Pool. Please support these companies. Let them know their continued support is appreciated. Tell them Tamarack Pool sent you.

There are some companies we would like to give a special thank you for the sheer volume of work they provided these past two weeks and some wonderful donations. Please consider them the next time you are looking.

Our Heros

Ministry Contracting: Rob showed up one day with 13 volunteers – thirteen of them! Then came back night after night with 4 or 5 people. They primed and painted the entire deck walls all the way up to the beams. It was a huge, huge job. Rex and Kendall hung out until it was done. 541-520-8051

Oregon Auto Repair: Bruce and Jason donated two solid weeks of work
every single day until the wee hours of the morning. They grouted the locker room floors, climbed down into the overflow pit to resurface the concrete, painted the lockers and worked close to 24 hours straight on opening night to get everything back in place. 541-829-1914

Paul Messer Custom Millwork: Paul donated and installed a new
fiberglass family room door and is working on the new wooden beam around the pool deck room. He also climbed up on tall ladders and fixed the cracks that were in the upper walls. 541-914-8897

Boresha Coffee: Ellen showed up day in and day out, running errands,
cleaning and generally keeping things running. She wortked many long hours right up to the final push the night before opening. 541-689-1549

Forrest Paint: Jake donated 15 gallons of free paint for the deck walls, 2
gallons of epoxy paint for the deck floor (which we haven’t gotten to use yet ☺) and a nice discount on the rest of the paint we needed. 541-868-1222

Emerald Pool: Tim donated the epoxy concrete material to reline the
overflow pit. When talking to him I found out his grandfather actually built the pool. 541-520-3900

Dicks Bikes: Dick showed up to support the pool and do drywall repair
even in the face of the huge trajedy of losing his daughter. We send our sincere condolences. 541-686-0529

Ashley’s Upholstery: Ashley provided last minute upholstery for the
changing benches when our volunteer was unable to make it. 541-606-8876

A special thanks to our volunteers who showed up, many of them multiple days in a row, and many with ailments, who pushed through to make it happen. You’re the reason we achieved our goal. Thank you. Thank you. It is because of you that Tamarack Pool remains strong.

Thanks! – Leni  volunteers@friendsoftamarack.org

Volunteers needed for Eweb and Women’s Expo

Hi!

Thanks so much for any and all help you have done to keep Tamarack Pool open. I am so grateful to have it available, as I know so many other people are too.

We have some community events coming up that we have a booth. This is the Just for Women Expo at Lane County Fair Grounds and EWEB Safety Break on Roosevelt Blvd. It’s a good place for Tamarack Pool to spread the word.

It’s pretty easy. We need a couple of people to hand out literature and talk about our wonderful pool. Plus it’s a fun day with like minded people :-)

Since all of us volunteers have our own physical limitations we have broken each day down into a few smaller sections. If you can cover any times for a few hours it helps tremendously. Please let me know if you are available during any of the following times.

Saturday, May 5th       9:30 am – 5:30 pm

Sunday, May 6th          10:30am – 2:30 pm

Wednesday, May 9th   11:30 am – 3:30 pm

Thanks so Very Much! – Leni

Put Your Business In Front of Pool Users

We have so many businesses that support Tamarack Pool. We would like to give some back.

We are creating an advertising board in the Pool lobby that will let you distribute your business cards or brochures directly to Pool visitors.

The Pool has more than 3500 visits per month, 70% for rehabilitation or pain relief. Demographics infant to senior. Our Pool users are dedicated to those business that support us.

We are looking for products and services that would appeal to our health conscious user base. Starting at just $25 a month.

For more information email leni@lenibader.com

Well rested and back at it!

Hi!

I hope you are well rested after the flurry of activity for the Pool of Lights and the Maintenance Project. I needed a little bit to catch my breath. Back to it now! We had a great turnout for the Pool of Lights – estimated count was 150 people!! And we also got some great media coverage. The first round maintenance allowed the Pool to reopen and we are so very happy to have our waters back! Let’s keep it going now.

Here are the current volunteer opportunities:

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Thank You Notes Project
We need some help to get the thank you notes out to the businesses who supported us with donations for the Pool of Lights and the Maintenance Project. These are very important> It is these businesses that allow us to move forward with our projects. There are quite a few of them. I think close to 40 so please volunteer even if you can only do a few.
  1. Call the business that donated – ask them the dollar value of their donation so we can get their donation certificate sent out to them.
  2. Hand write a thank you note to the business. You don’t need perfect handwriting. It is more important we get them out than what the exact handwriting looks like :-) . We have sample text of what to say.
I am working on this project this coming week. Please email or call me – you are welcome to say ‘I can only do one or two’.

Supporter Board
This is a very exciting project that will bring continuing income into Tamarack Pool. The Supporter Board will be acrylic bins in the Pool lobby with spaces for business cards and brochures of interest to all of us.
There are three categories
  • Health & Wellness
  • Food & Nutrition
  • Personal & Business Services
Spaces are available for monthly rent: $25 business card size – $50 brochure size – $100 magazine size. Magazine and brochure can be full size handouts or full size advertising space with an attachment for business card handouts.

The Supporter Board idea came from my personal experience with the small set of acrylic bins that were in the lobby. My husband dropped a few cards for his auto repair business in the bottom corner bin. Every single customer he has came from those cards. He doesn’t advertise anywhere else. I also found great value in the information from doctors and others in those bins. The yellow pages is no more - it’s so hard to find a place to reach people. The Supporter Board gives businesses a place to give information and a place for us to find the things we need.

Rental spaces are being offered first to current pool members and those referred by a pool member. Advance reservations are being taken now. Contact me email leni@lenibader.com or call 541-210-8680.

Volunteer Telephone Round Robin
We have some volunteers who really like to help out but they don’t have an email address or internet. They tend to get left out of announcements and volunteer opportunities. I would like to create a round robin of those people who do not have email so they can particpate with us.

If you would like to be part of the Round Robin please let me know.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

That’s all this message! We will have new projects for continuing maintenance and other fundraising activities soon!

Thanks to all who have helped us get here - and glad to be in the warm water again! – Leni

Thank you!

Congratulations Volunteers,

And Thank You All.

The project to re-open Tamarack Pool has been successful.  Each of you has been a part of that success.  ALL of you have been the critical part of that success. To date we have garnered more than $15,000 in volunteer fundraising and counting!

Each of you according to your gifts has given of your hours, your creativity, your communication, your organizing, your clerical skills, your crafting, your carpentry, your muscles, your transportation, your encouragement and more.  Thank you.

You are a rare group that has accomplished so much in such a short and swiftly moving frame of time.  You have come together, each in his and her part, to heighten awareness, raise funds, renovate, clean & polish, and subsequently re-open the pool.  Many of you have put forth this effort to regain a therapeutic tool for your own health; many have done so for their loved ones; still others on behalf of their clients and/or patients. As a group however, you have succeeded in providing this healing place for all the previous users to resume enjoying and for countless more to discover in the future.

I thank you for all your hard work.  Unlike so much in the work-a-day world, I had the pleasure of helping to coordinate a group of people of which I knew each truly wanted to help; each was truly willing.  Along the course of general fundraising, renovations, and Pool of Lights, frustrations would crop up, but I could look at those around me—helping in so many ways—and my spirits would be refreshed, my confidence in our shared goal strengthened.  Onward we went, and we met our goal brilliantly…thanks to you.

We will no doubt all enjoy time in the pool to relax and re-aquire our preferred daily routines (and properly so).  And when we have replenished our emotional stores, refueled our energy banks and reconditioned our bodies – starting next week let us think forward to the continuing goals of fundraising and physical maintenance of the pool. The need for operating funds is persistent, and there are still a number of improvements the building can use. Give me your suggestions, take the lead on a project, or part of a project.  Also please let other pool users know about the volunteer power at the pool and how instrumental it has been, and that they are welcome to be a part of it. You can send them to this site here  www.friendsoftamarack.org or call 541-210-8680 to register.

I hold you as precious—a treasure—each of you a jewel who has shone with commitment, generosity, and the spirit of goodness.  As has been written before: with your efforts you have done more than so many others, and more than so many are able to do.  Take the message to your doctors, your physical therapist, your surgeons – ask them to support the Tamarack Pool with a continuous donation. On behalf of all the other Tamarack Pool users, again thank you!

Thank you – and the next step!

Thank you so very much for everything that was done to make the Pool of Lights and the Maintenance Project a sucess. We have our Pool back open!!

We have just gotten some wonderful publicity. This is the first step to finding large donors who will support the pool on a regular basis.

The next step is to push these news articles to the top so people see them. I know this sound technical but it’s not. Please at least try.

This is so important. Right now, if anyone searches for Tamarack Pool they get a page that has one review which says “Past it’s prime.” and gives it 1 star on a 5 star rating. I added my review. Please add yours, Then send this email to your family and friends asking them to do the same.

Each one is just two easy steps:

  1. Click here http://bit.ly/tamarackpool to go to our google search page
  2. Add a review of the pool

Bye for Now! – Leni

Great Event!!

A wonderful time was had by all. To date we have raised more than $15K from volunteer fundraising efforts.

We also had a great news spot on KVAL about the pool. Help us push it to the top of the page. Go to the article and do a facebook like. Tweet it if you got it!

All Hands on Deck! Sat Sept 24 Cleaning & Light Maintenance

Sat 24th – 9:00 am – Cleaning and Light Maintenance of the pool building and grounds. Most of our volunteers go to the pool because of physical limitations. We don’t get may volunteers for these type of activities. If you can be here, please do!

  • Bring’em if you have ‘em: broom, cleaning supplies, gloves, contractor bags
  • If you are handy bring a small tool kit
  • If you have capability for minor grout line fixes bring tools you would need. The grout is nonsanded dark grey

The other activity which needs able bodied volunteers is to distribute posters and flyers to stores and businesses this week.

Many, many thanks to all of you who are making this come together. Looking forward to seeing you here and looking forward to getting back into our water!

Call me with questions 1-541-210-8680  or email volunteers@friendsoftamarck.org (dial the 1 – for some people it is a long distance number)

Thanks – Leni

P.S. Check your email. The invitation you can forward to friends, family and doctors has been sent out.

Fundraising Update

Hi Everyone!

We are just working along here! To date from our efforts we have almost reached the $10,000 mark and we’ve received $19,300 as a grant from PacificSource for Tamarack’s Core Program: Aquatic Healthcare Safety Net – which is an underwriting of the Miracle Hour at Tamarack. — open adult exercise and therapeutic use of the pool.

Great job everyone! We’re just getting started!

Thanks! – Leni
